The horizontal projection of the four-bar network serves as a form diagram. The reciprocal force diagram describes the in-plane equilibrium of the form diagram and therefore the horizontal equilibrium of the three-dimensional network. For 4-valent networks there is an infinite range of possible equilibrium networks for a given load. Modify the force diagram to explore the range of possible equilibrium solutions. The force diagram is unconstrained thus allowing for combined compression-tension solutions as well as for compression only and tension only solutions.
