Sam Bouten is a structural engineer and architect. His curiosity goes to lightweight, funicular and adaptive structures, and further to the optimisation and computational algorithms that make these structures possible.
He holds a Masters of Science in Engineering and Architecture from Ghent University (UGent), from which he graduated in 2015 with great distinction and a prized masters thesis on moveable structures. After his studies, he gained experience in design and engineering firms in New York, working from concept to fabrication on complex geometries, sculptural installations and high-tech façade structures.
From 2017 to 2020, he joined the prominent engineering firm Schlaich Bergermann Partner in their Stuttgart office, where he developed the design and engineering of various large-span roofs, operable façades, footbridges and other specialty engineering typologies.
Sam joined the BRG as an engineer in October 2020.
