Julie Assunção

Julie Assunção is a civil engineering student at Escola Politécnica of the University of São Paulo and also in the dual-degree program with École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées (ENPC) in Paris.

With a particular interest in optimizing structures, during her time at ENPC Julie did a Master's degree specialized in sustainable construction. Previously, she participated in several research projects aimed at reducing the thickness of structural components made in concrete, working together with the University of São Paulo and Universitat Politecnica de Barcelona. The developed technology was applied to the tunnels of the Paris metro that are being built for the Olympics of 2024. In support of her studies, she was awarded an Excellence Scholarship by the French company Saint Gobain.
Her interest in digital fabrication with the aim to minimize the need for materials inspired her work with 3D printing of concrete structural elements.

Julie joined the Block Research Group as a visiting Master's Student in February 2020.
