Heidi Silvennoinen

Heidi Silvennoinen’s research focuses on life cycle assessments in the early design phase, particularly for digitally fabricated buildings. The goal is to create a software tool that allows designers to easily compare the environmental impacts of design options, taking into account material reuse and reusability. The tool will be integrated with the Block Research Group’s existing COMPAS framework. This research is conducted jointly between Chair of Circular Engineering for Architecture and the BRG as part of the National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR) in Digital Fabrication.

Before beginning her PhD, Heidi worked at the Singapore-ETH Centre’s Cities Knowledge Graph team, researching how semantic web technologies could be used to integrate data related to urban planning. Heidi has also worked for several architectural offices and ArchiFrame, a BIM plugin for designing timber structures. Heidi has Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Architecture with distinction from Aalto University, with a minor in Computer Science in the former degree. Previously, Heidi also obtained a BA in History from Oxford University.
