For our holiday card this year, we explored bringing 3D reciprocal diagrams into virtual reality! On the front of our holiday card, are planar projections of 3D reciprocal snowflakes.\u00a0Using the \u201cBRG XCard 2015\u201d app, you will be able to see the holographic projections of the 3D reciprocal snowflakes in real-time! If you\u00a0understand the frame-like snowflake as the structure (under given external loads, or equivalent self-stress), the forces within the bars of\u00a0that structure are proportional to the areas of the\u00a0corresponding, perpendicular faces of the solidlike\u00a0snowflake.<\/p>\n

Instructions:<\/p>\n

  1. Download the image below (“Front of the Card”), and open the image on a device of your choice. Or, you can print it as well for even more interactivity.<\/li>\n
  2. On another device, download and install the \u201cBRG XCard 2015\u201d app\u00a0from the Google Play or Apple app store.\u00a0(Apple app still pending…)<\/li>\n
  3. Open the App.<\/li>\n
  4. Point the camera at the front of the image. Be sure\u00a0to include the whole image in the viewing area.<\/li>\n
  5. Wait until the image is tracked.<\/li>\n
  6. Enjoy!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
