The BRG will participate at the 2017 Symposium of the International Association of Shell and Spatial Structures (IASS) in Hamburg, Germany, presenting some of our latest research.
Invited by Prof. Frédéric Migayrou and programme director Giles Retsin, Prof. Block is invited together with Mark Burry, Sandra Manninger and Marcelyn Gow as external reviewer for the Architectural Design (AD) programme at The Bartlett School of Architecture at UCL in London, UK.
The Block Research Group will be well represented at the Design Modelling Symposium Paris 2017 with two presentations, by Mariana Popescu and Shajay Bhooshan.
Invited by Laurent Ney and Prof. Mike Schlaich, Prof. Block will on Sept 6, 2017 deliver one of the keynote addresses at the 6th International Footbridge Conference at the TU Berlin.
On September 1, 2017, the Seoul Biennale 2017 "Imminent Commons", curated by Hyungmin Pai and Alejandro Zaera-Polo, opens. The BRG worked together with the Chair of Sustainable Construction - Prof. Dirk E. Hebel at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) on an exhibtion called "Beyond Mining / Urban Growth", featuring a naturally grown structure!
Invited by Prof. Isak Worre Foged, the Block Research Group is co-organising the 2017 UTZON(x) summer school "Robotic Based Composite Design" from August 19-27 at Aalborg University, Denmark.
As of August 2017, Profs. Arno Schlüter and Philippe Block take over as the new head and deputy head, respectively, of the Institute of Technology in Architecture (ITA) at ETH Zürich.

Taking over from founding director Prof. Matthias Kohler, Prof. Block is the new director of the Swiss National Centre for Competence in Research (NCCR) in Digital Fabrication.
We learned the sad news that Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr. sc. techn. h.c. Dr. h.c. Klaus Linkwitz, the father of the force density method, recently passed away. The BRG is thankful for having had the opportunity to have several inspiring exchanges with him.
Finally the overview paper on "NEST HiLo: Investigating lightweight construciton and adaptive energy systems" has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Building Engineering.
